Network Atlas

Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 21, 2025

Network Atlas is a network discovery application for macOS developed by Zarware. This privacy policy explains how Network Atlas handles your information and is specific to this application only.

The Short Version

Network Atlas is designed with privacy in mind. The app operates primarily on your device. The only data transmitted externally is MAC addresses, which are sent to our server solely to identify device manufacturers. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

Information Transmitted to Our Servers

Data Type What It Is Why We Collect It
MAC Addresses Hardware identifiers of network devices To identify device manufacturer/vendor

How it works

When Network Atlas discovers a device on your network, it may send that device's MAC address to our API (zarware.com/api/mac-lookup/) to look up the manufacturer name (e.g., "Apple", "Samsung", "Dell"). This helps you identify devices on your network.

What We DO NOT Collect

  • Your name, email, or contact information
  • Your IP address or location
  • Device names or hostnames
  • Network passwords or credentials
  • Browsing history or app usage data
  • Any other personal information

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your Mac and is never transmitted to our servers:

Data Type Purpose Storage Location
Discovered device information Display network devices App memory (cleared on quit)
Custom device names Your labels for devices macOS UserDefaults
App preferences Scanner settings macOS UserDefaults

2. How We Use Information

MAC Address Lookups

  • Purpose: Identify the manufacturer of network devices
  • Process: MAC address is sent via HTTPS to our API, manufacturer name is returned
  • Retention: We do not store MAC addresses. Lookups are transient and processed in real-time
  • No Logging: Our API does not log or retain the MAC addresses it receives

Local Data

All other data discovered by Network Atlas (IP addresses, hostnames, services, ports) remains on your device and is never transmitted externally.

3. Data Sharing

Third-Party Services

Network Atlas uses one external service:
